Arbitron Is Not A Wrist Watch...
Arbitron is really the only widely used and recognizable ratings source for radio out there. Arbitron surveys virtually every medium and large market out there, and hundreds of small ones as well. They send out "listener diaries" to a wide variety of persons in each market, asking them to record their radio- listening habits for a period of twelve weeks. 


 

Arbitron is an independent company who sells ratings information to each willing radio station in their survey markets. All stations receive the same market information. Arbitron is most known for its quantitative data (how many people are listening, and to which stations?)…but it also provides qualitative data (what types of people are listening to each station, and what are their lifestyle habits?). In my opinion, qualitative data is by far most important in achieving results with any campaign.
